Catching Up with Will Bowes

MV5BMTAwMDk1NzQwODleQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU4MDAwMDU3NzQx._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,665,1000_AL_Down through the years, one of my most favorite people to feature in At a Glance has been musician and actor Mr. Will BowesWill is one of those people who has been blessed with the creativity and talent of multiple mediums.  His IMDB credits reflect a range of television and film positions, and his love of music has reached from composer in those same fields, to his own solo recording career, as well as front man for the Toronto based band, Gold Complex.  All of that, and the fact that he’s just genuinely a nice guy, keeps me inspired to showcase his work.  (Read more…)

Reeve Carney – Youth is Wasted

Reeve Carney’s Debut Studio Album ~ Cover Design and Photo by Timothy Garrett

Today I bring an introduction, live show experience, and music review of a multi-talented artist whose musical stylings I find lush, fresh and authentic.

I personally discovered the wonders of Reeve Carney when I finally gave way to my fears and took a peek at the widely successful Showtime television series Penny Dreadful.  I found Reeve’s portrayal of the immortal hedonist Dorian Gray extremely spot on, which is saying a lot considering my affinity for the character (check out my much earlier article, The Confessions of Dorian Gray – This World Our Hell.)  Read more…

Will Bowes and Gold Complex

In 2013 I published a Feature titled Striking Gold with Will Bowes.  Will is an actor I became acquainted with following his appearance in a TV series I was interested in.  When he agreed to do the original Feature, I found that there was much more to this guy than being an actor.  Multi-talented, Will is involved in many aspects connected to television and film besides acting, and he is also a gifted musician who currently is the front man for a band titled Gold Complex.  Funny how the previous Feature’s title seems to have been a prediction of GOLD things to come for Will… FATE, as he put it.  Read more

The great thing about doing my own blog is that I am able to select Feature content that really appeals to me, and in turn, what I think  others will enjoy as well.  I like to focus on people who may be getting a foothold in their career or are involved in a specific part of an industry that I’d like to discover more about.  When the magic happens and all of that comes together, I am fortunate to share with you talented people like today’s Feature on Luis Maesso.

Awhile back I ran across Luis on Twitter after he had recently stared in a very successful television commercial for Extra Gum.  In the commercial titled Extra Gum:  The Story of Sarah and Juan, Luis plays the role of Juan… Read More…

Major Sounds with Minor Soul

Minor Soul ~ Max and Jack Wagner

What’s better than a song writing, instrument playing, vocalist musician?  How about two song writing, instrument playing, vocalist musicians!  Such is the double treat we receive from brothers Jack and Max Wagner, the duo of Minor Soul.  With lush harmonies and heartfelt lyrical melodies, I was taken back to a time of Simon and Garfunkel, but with a fresh new vibe.

I ran across Jack (21) and Max (19) through the usual Social Media connections.  I was taken with their music right away and scurried to find out more.  Discovering an amazing back story for these talented guys, I was eager to share their musical journey, and they were happy to chat.  From their start in London, time spent in Hong Kong, their amazing encounter with Dave Stewart, and connection to Milla JovovichMinor Soul is making their way!  Read More

Chooka Parker – A Jewel From Down Under

You know how it is when you hear a saying or a catch phrase.  The next thing you know, you are using it and melding it into your own vocabulary.  Having lovely Twitter friends who are Australian and theatrically inclined, I picked up the phrase Chookas from them.  The Urban Dictionary defines Chookas as Theatrical slang used mainly in Australia to wish performer good luck. Synonymous to:  break a leg.  One day after using the phrase on Twitter, a friend asked me what it meant.  Soon after my reply I received a tweet that simply said It’s also my name!  This was my personal introduction to an amazing young man named Chooka Parker.  Read More…

Drew Bauml – All in the Family

While looking for inspiration for Features in At a Glance, I realized that sometimes I need to look no further than my own family.  One of the good things about Facebook is that it gives us a link with some of our family members, particularly those who do not live close by, that maybe we wouldn’t have had before.  So, when I began to see recent posts and photos of my cousin’s son and realized just how musically talented he had become, I knew just who I wanted to interview as one of my Features on Introductions to New and Promising Talent…something I had in mind to focus on when creating this blog.

Drew Bauml is 18 years old and just starting his Senior Year at MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas.  With a penchant for funky socks, bow ties, and a first place win of his high school’s talent contest, Mac Idol, people are beginning to take note of Drew’s talent and his charming quirkiness.  Read More

Striking Gold with Will Bowes

Will Bowes - Bowes_Will2 IMDB

Doing interviews for this blog has been an interesting experience for me.  Sometimes I set out very purposefully to “snag” a specific someone to interview…and sometimes I just happen to stumble upon someone and amazing things happen.  The later was the case with Will Bowes.  I first became aware of Will due to my avid addiction to BBC America’s Copper.  Will’s character, Phinbar Byrnes, or more affectionately nicknamed Little Byrnes, adds a sort of naivety mixed with humor to the often times dark story line, which in turn has endeared him to the audience.  Running across him by chance on Twitter (where I have been able to network the majority of my interviews!) and exchanging niceties about his recent episode, it rather randomly occurred to me to approach him about a Q and A.  To my delight he agreed to take me on and what has resulted is an interesting interview with a guy who is so much more than I had any knowledge of at the onset.  I found a gold mine and am now here to share the claim with all of you!  Read More

Introducing Musician and Composer Chris Hyson

A Visit with Chris Hyson

I have heard music and other art forms being described as mediums that create emotion which affords us the ability to experience rather than just intellectually understand what the artist is trying to communicate.  I relate to this as I find the best way to describe music is that it moves me, and I don’t mean that in just a physical way.  As much as I love to dance, music moves me emotionally, I feel it inside.  And I think most people would agree.  That’s why it’s easy to say that it only took a moment for me to fall in love with Chris Hyson’s music.  From my first introduction to the soft jazz melodies, this music was speaking my language, I felt it inside.  Read More…
