Scenic vistas of mountain landscapes and surrounding hills nestle close to surround a beautiful, bountiful, rural valley area. Blessed with vegetables and fruit trees, livestock, hops, and the booming industry of vineyards, the Yakima Valley in Washington State seems a long way from the bright lights of Hollywood and the L.A. film industry. But sometimes, paths cross and amazing things can happen right in your own backyard.
Such was the case with J. Rick Castañeda’s film Cement Suitcase. Rick is a Yakima Valley native who traveled from L.A. to return to his roots and create his first Indie Feature Film using the valley as the setting for his homegrown tale. With the film now touring select Film Festivals and winning multiple awards, I was able to catch up with Rick, find out about his journey in a film career, and him being the first filmmaker to feature the stunning Yakima Valley, home to not only Rick, but myself as well! NBC has finally released an official trailer for The Night Shift featuring Eoin Mackenas TC Callahan.The series will air on May 27th at 9/8c. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Eoin was selected at the ripe age of 19 as the Face of Abercrombie & Fitch, a well-known American clothing retailer. Eoin modeled successfully for A&F as well as other high end bookings before moving on to become a talented actor, writer, producer, director, and cinematographer.

As we’ve established before in related blogs, Eoin Macken doesn’t do stuff the way other people do. You might know him as the dashing, yet ever courageous Sir Gwaine in the BBC showMerlin, or maybe you’ve seen his movies on Youtube, but no matter where you’ve discovered him, if you’ve seen him, you remember him. This blog is not going to be about how much respect and fangirl feelings I have for this man. This blog is going to be about his latest movie, Coldand the convention style screening he offered the fans.
A few months ago, Eoin started a crowdfunding campaign in order to finish his project, a movie starring his Merlin costar Tom Hopper. If you are not familiar with the crowdfunding concept, it is the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations (per Wikipedia). In short, Eoin asked us, fans, to help him fund his movie. The response exceeded the expectations and almost 300 people gave money to help make this movie. Read More…
