What is it about the Irish?  I swear it’s not on purpose, but for some reason I continue to find the most interesting people to Feature who just happen to hail from the Emerald Isle!  Aindrias de Staicand the band, The Latchikos, are no exception.

With St. Partick’s Day upon us, I thought this Galway based band would be a great fit to celebrate the holiday.  Although there are no leprechauns, you may certainly find these boys worthy of a pot of gold.  Read more…

Eoin Macken – Chats Cold

Eoin Macken’s name may not be familiar to you, but his face could be.  Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Eoin was selected at the ripe age of 19 as the Face of Abercrombie & Fitch, a well-known American clothing retailer.  Eoin modeled successfully for A&F as well as other high end bookings before moving on to become a talented actor, writer, producer, director, and cinematographer.

I first learned of Eoin’s talents on the BBC Series Merlin where he brought to life King Arthur’s lovable knight, Sir Gwaine.  It was on the set of Merlin where Eoin met his good friend Tom Hopper.  Their friendship led them down a road of creativity from which an Independent Feature Film was created entitled Cold.  Read More…

Evora – Album Launch at The Grand Social – Dublin

Forward by Jayne:  If you are a regular reader of At a Glance, you will have read our previous related articles on Evora.  I originally interviewed Alan Rickard, front man for the band, and Leeloo did a subsequent CD review.  And then the time finally came for an Album Release Party.  The event was held in Dublin at The Grand Social on June 27, 2013.  Leeloo was fortunate to travel to attend the event and she shares with us her adventures of the evening, including meeting the band consisting of Alan, Ian McSweeney, Jim Morton, Johnny Morton, and Joey Morton.  Read on for Leeloo’s recap…

Not really knowing how to start this music review (it will be a music review in the end if it all goes according to plan, I promise), I do not consider myself an expert in the matter, far from it actually, but I know what I like.  What I look for in a song, in a voice, is this little thing that makes me forget, that takes me to a complete other world.

A few months ago, I watched a movie (Dreaming For You by Eoin Macken) and fell in love with a song, a voice, that of Evora, an Irish band from County Dublin.  If you are an avid reader of At a Glance, you’ve already heard of them, as Jayne interviewed Alan Rickard (the voice of Evora) a few months back.  Read More…

A music critic I am not, but I do know what I like when I hear it.  That being said, there is a wide range of sounds that appeal to me which cross many genres and repertoires.  When launching At a Glance, I knew music was something I would include through feature interviews and discussion.

So to start us off on our first music interview, I’d like to introduce a band whose sound I really enjoy.  Evora is a five piece group originating from Dublin, Ireland.  They have just released a single and music video titled Tell Me Your Name from their upcoming album, Hurry Up Before I Die.  The album is in final production stages and will be out soon!  Read More…
