Will Bowes and Gold Complex

Will Bowes

In 2013 I published a Feature titled Striking Gold with Will Bowes.  Will is an actor I became acquainted with following his appearance in a TV series I was interested in.  When he agreed to do the original Feature, I found that there was much more to this guy than being an actor.  Multi-talented, Will is involved in many aspects connected to television and film besides acting, and he is also a gifted musician who currently is the front man for a band titled Gold Complex.  Funny how the previous Feature’s title seems to have been a prediction of GOLD things to come for Will… FATE, as he put it.  Read more

The great thing about doing my own blog is that I am able to select Feature content that really appeals to me, and in turn, what I think  others will enjoy as well.  I like to focus on people who may be getting a foothold in their career or are involved in a specific part of an industry that I’d like to discover more about.  When the magic happens and all of that comes together, I am fortunate to share with you talented people like today’s Feature on Luis Maesso.

Awhile back I ran across Luis on Twitter after he had recently stared in a very successful television commercial for Extra Gum.  In the commercial titled Extra Gum:  The Story of Sarah and Juan, Luis plays the role of Juan… Read More…

An Extra in a Land of Zs

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be on set while they are filming a television series?  Even more, wondered what it would be like to be in front of the camera?  Recently I sat down to talk with one of my long time friends about her experience of filming background for the Syfy network series, Z Nation.

Susan Whitman and I met back when we were teenagers.  Marriage, work, kids, even grand kids for Susan, have kept us busy.  Susan even served a term on our city council.  But now it seems we have more “us” time, and are taking advantage to pursue things that we might have never imagined would be possible for us to do.  Read more

My Person, Vanuatu, and Nepal

Greg and I – Just Two Ragamuffins

Many of us have that one person in our lives who truly inspires us.  Some of us are even fortunate enough to be related.  I have such a person in my life.  My first memories of Greg are of us playing together in my backyard.  I was somewhere around four or five years old and Greg was a half year older.  In fact, Greg was born on my mom’s birthday, which probably made him her favorite nephew.  And if not, well, he at least always had the title of favorite cousin from me.  Growing up, Greg was the only boy around my age that I ever felt really comfortable being around.  I do have a brother, but we are separated by seven years, him being the younger.  And yes, I have other boy cousins, but they were more like typical brothers; cousins who you visit with at family functions, playing with some of them and barely tolerating others.  Read More…

Keeping up with Josh

Congratulations to Josh Sabarra on the success of his first publication, Porn Again.  Josh was At A Glance‘s first Feature way back in the winter of 2012.  At that time he mentioned his dream project was to pen a book and that he had actually began the process of developing it!  Two years later, he saw this wonderful dream evolve into fruition!  Upon publication, Josh has been doing promotions such as Sirius Radio, book signings, and discussion sessions.  He’s also keeping bookstores stocked with pre-signed copies of the book, which apparently seem to keep running out.  No shock there.

Thanks Josh, for sharing your journey with us.  We are celebrating with you today and wish for many more exciting things to come your way!

Time to Get Back to Writing!

Lincoln City, Oregon

It’s amazing how fast time has slipped away.  Following a lengthy family health issue to deal with last Fall, I then spent some time recovering from surgery myself this past Spring.  With all of that behind me, the time has come to try and bring some new Features and posts to the blog!  I hope you all are having a wonderful summer (or colder months if you are around the world farther away!)  It has been exceedingly hot here in wonderful Washington State.  Above 100 degrees for the last two weeks.  Makes my mind a little scrambled, but I am determined to return to the blog and connect with all of you once more!  I am looking for some interesting people and subjects to Feature, so if anyone has any suggestions or connections they’d care to pass on, please feel free!  I’ll leave you with a photo I took from a recent trip to the Oregon Coast.  Enjoy!

Cement Suitcase – A Little Wine for the Soul

Scenic vistas of mountain landscapes and surrounding hills nestle close to surround a beautiful, bountiful, rural valley area.  Blessed with vegetables and fruit trees, livestock, hops, and the booming industry of vineyards, the Yakima Valley in Washington State seems a long way from the bright lights of Hollywood and the L.A. film industry.  But sometimes, paths cross and amazing things can happen right in your own backyard.

Such was the case with J. Rick Castañeda’s film Cement Suitcase.  Rick is a Yakima Valley native who traveled from L.A. to return to his roots and create his first Indie Feature Film using the valley as the setting for his homegrown tale.  With the film now touring select Film Festivals and winning multiple awards, I was able to catch up with Rick, find out about his journey in a film career, and him being the first filmmaker to feature the stunning Yakima Valleyhome to not only Rick, but myself as well!  Read more
