Drew Bauml – All in the Family

While looking for inspiration for Features in At a Glance, I realized that sometimes I need to look no further than my own family.  One of the good things about Facebook is that it gives us a link with some of our family members, particularly those who do not live close by, that maybe we wouldn’t have had before.  So, when I began to see recent posts and photos of my cousin’s son and realized just how musically talented he had become, I knew just who I wanted to interview as one of my Features on Introductions to New and Promising Talent…something I had in mind to focus on when creating this blog.

Drew Bauml is 18 years old and just starting his Senior Year at MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas.  With a penchant for funky socks, bow ties, and a first place win of his high school’s talent contest, Mac Idol, people are beginning to take note of Drew’s talent and his charming quirkiness.  Read More

Geoffrey Breton – Chain Reaction

One thing I have found from featuring amazing people and projects in At a Glance is that they are always surrounded by other amazing people and projects.  I have been fortunate at times to be able to chain reaction, if you will, talent into multiple connected Features.  These connections provide an expanded view of previous Features and opens up conversations in other directions as well.

Previously I published a Feature on musician Chris Hyson, and then followed with a Feature update announcing the filming of a music video being produced for one of Chris’ compositions.  In the update it was noted that along with actor Alexander Vlahos, the video would be directed by Geoffrey Breton.  From my research, it was evident that Geoffrey is a major up and comer in the film industry, working as Associate Director at Wolfheart Productions, who just happens to be producers of Chris‘s music video.  I jumped at the chance to be able to find out more about Geoffreys work, so after contacting him to see if he would be willing to chat with us, he luckily managed to clear a little time away and gives us a glimpse into his world.  Read More

In the Tub with TJ Scott

TJ Scott first turned up on my radar in 1997 when he directed one of my favorite episodes on the original La Femme NikitaTV series.  TJ had quickly become a familiar director in locations around the world, and it came as no surprise whenever I would see his credits pop up on my TV.  A number of years later I was fortunate to meet TJ and his lovely wife, Victoria Pratt, at a celebrity charity auction event in LA.  He was gracious, funny and as talented as I had imagined.  Since then, TJ has gone on to expand his career in various aspects of the industry.  Still keeping up with his work, when I heard he was creating a photographic coffee table book, In the Tub, I knew this was the perfect feature for At a Glance.  Read More

COLD a Film by Eoin Macken

As we’ve established before in related blogsEoin Macken doesn’t do stuff the way other people do.  You might know him as the dashing, yet ever courageous Sir Gwaine in the BBC show Merlin, or maybe you’ve seen his movies on Youtube, but no matter where you’ve discovered him, if you’ve seen him, you remember him.  This blog is not going to be about how much respect and fangirl feelings I have for this man. This blog is going to be about his latest movie, Cold and the convention style screening he offered the fans.

A few months ago, Eoin started a crowdfunding campaign in order to finish his project, a movie starring his Merlin costar Tom Hopper.  If you are not familiar with the crowdfunding concept, it is the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations (per Wikipedia).  In short, Eoin asked us, fans, to help him fund his movie.  The response exceeded the expectations and almost 300 people gave money to help make this movie.  Read More

Striking Gold with Will Bowes

Will Bowes - Bowes_Will2 IMDB

Doing interviews for this blog has been an interesting experience for me.  Sometimes I set out very purposefully to “snag” a specific someone to interview…and sometimes I just happen to stumble upon someone and amazing things happen.  The later was the case with Will Bowes.  I first became aware of Will due to my avid addiction to BBC America’s Copper.  Will’s character, Phinbar Byrnes, or more affectionately nicknamed Little Byrnes, adds a sort of naivety mixed with humor to the often times dark story line, which in turn has endeared him to the audience.  Running across him by chance on Twitter (where I have been able to network the majority of my interviews!) and exchanging niceties about his recent episode, it rather randomly occurred to me to approach him about a Q and A.  To my delight he agreed to take me on and what has resulted is an interesting interview with a guy who is so much more than I had any knowledge of at the onset.  I found a gold mine and am now here to share the claim with all of you!  Read More

Reflections of the Legend – Author Interview with E.A. Schneider

One of the things I wanted to do when I started At a Glance was to help support new talent.  Those who were out there pursuing their dreams and making a way for themselves.  I have always been someone who would share news and updates, doing my part to get the word out for people I ran across on Facebook or Twitter.  But At a Glance gives me a venue to showcase some of these folks, and in my own little way, be a part of their journey.  I hope to be able to continue to be fortunate to share their adventures with all of you.

That being said, recently I had the pleasure of getting to know a lovely lady named Elisabeth Schneider.  Elisabeth, or Beth, is in the process of publishing her first book.  Being an aspiring writer myself, I was interested in her journey and the book itself (it’s actually a series!) which uses the legend of Camelot as its backdrop.  Read More

Working Intelligently As A Dancer

As dancers we put in tireless amounts of blood, sweat, and tears, then often have less to show for it than we would ideally like.  It is only human to want to see instant improvement and results, and as we are acutely dedicated to our discipline we work ourselves to the bone to get to where we want to be.  I want you to think the next time you are presented with a new challenge or goal in your next class or performance, and ask yourself these questions:  Do I want to work brutally hard?  Or Do I actually want to achieve results?  I for one want the results, and while I’m more than willing to work hard for them, I want it to be a kind of hard work that also applies my intelligence.  Read More

The Great Gatsby – An Interview with Henry Byalikov

The Great Gatsby Publicity Photo

Recently I had a chance to chat with my friend Henry Byalikov about his exciting participation in Baz Luhrmann’s movie, The Great Gatsby.  Henry is a familiar name to many of our regular readers, particularly those who followed along on Hector’s and my coverage of Dancing with the Stars this past season.  Henry is a Principal dancer on the show, currently performing with the Troupe.  Henry is also a busy guy.  When not working on Dancing with the Stars, he ties up his off-time with additional projects.  In the Fall of 2011, one of those projects was The Great Gatsby.  Read More

Dancing with the Stars Season 16 – Week 10 Finale!!

Two Nights of Wonderful to Round out Season 16!

Jayne’s Introduction:

Wow!  It’s hard to believe that Season 16 has come to an end!  Although it seemed there were a number of predictable outcomes throughout the months, the time was splashed with amazing dancing, heartfelt moments, injuries, humor, and great musical performances. The two night Finale pulled out all the stops and jam-packed every moment full of dance for the remaining four couples.  As we finish up the season with our final Feature, Hector provides us with a breakdown of the couples’ performances along with his overall thoughts.  With him covering the dance details, I’ve added just a few personal comments of my favorite things on each couple as well.  So let’s get to it!  Read More…
